Top family friendly festivals 2019 in a caravan

It’s been a few years since hubby and I trudged through the festival mud, slightly bleary-eyed, hunting for our tent.

But guess what, this year we fancy doing it all again. Sort of.

We are in the planning stages of attempting our very first family-friendly festival. This time we’ll have the kids in tow, and of course, we’ll be taking the caravan.

Family friendly festival in a caravan

I’m thinking less beer tent and more craft tepee. No to canvas and yes to caravan comforts.

We fancy rolling up in the caravan and enjoying a weekend of music and family fun, with a warm bed for the night and a few home comforts to keep us going through the day.

So what are the options?

Interestingly enough there are a lot of festivals that welcome caravans (and children) with many new boutique festivals popping up all over the country. Whether its food, art, music or family fun, there is sure to be a festival to suit you.

So I’ve put together a list (in date order) of 2019 UK festivals that welcome families and caravans.

Alfresco Festival

23rd-27th May 2019, Hop Farm, Paddock Wood Tonbridge Kent TN12 6PY

Alfresco boasts some of the finest electronic music acts playing over several stages, whilst priding itself as being uber family friendly.

This year, facilities and entertainment for children is said to be the biggest yet with a host of entertainers providing children’s theatre, shows and stories, sports day fun and games, stilt walkers and jugglers, fire eaters and puppet shows, silent and non-silent discos and entertainment for the whole family.

Why so special?

2MANYDJS – now that’s a blast from the past – and a wide variety of music acts, combined with an area for the kids where they can take part in everything they wish and parents don’t have to fork out for extra costs.

Motorhomes / Caravans / Camper Vans

There’s a designated area for live in vehicles, but be quick, caravan/camper tickets always sell out quickly.

Weekend caravan/motorhome with EHU £199 + £15.92

Weekend camper van with £59 + £5.90

Elderflower Fields 2019

An award-winning three-day festival, designed especially for families with children. A weekend adventure, packed with music, sports, nature and the arts, set in the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside.

A relaxed vibe and with lots for the kids to do and with no extra costs.

I came across this review of last years’ event by the Festival Kidz which was really helpful, check it out.

Why so special?

Camping favourites – bug hunting, bat detecting, crafts and campfire stories. You can even listen to the inner workings of a tree and see if it talks no less.

Motorhomes / Caravans / Camper Vans

Live-in vehicle pitches may be used for camper vans, caravans, motorhomes and any other type of live-in vehicle.

Weekend tickets for adults (incl 1 car and free standard camping) from £130, kids (3+) from £62.50 and under 3s from £6. This event is quite small, so don’t waste time and book now.

Consistently nominated as the Best Family Festival in the UK Festival Awards, Wychwood is a perfect festival to enjoy live music and chill with the family and friends.

Boasting over 100 acts across four stages, plus music, dance and arts workshops, a circus school and a programme of talks, debates and comedy for all ages. This year Wychwood is celebrating its 15th birthday and organisers have gone out of their way to make sure it’s the best year yet for kids and families.

Green Man Festival

Thurs 15th – Sun 18th August 2019, Brecon Beacons, Powys

Green Man has been on my radar for a couple of years as it’s well known as one of the best family festivals there is. Set in stunning woodlands with tonnes of stuff to keep the entire family entertained, from tots to teens.

There are ten areas at Green Man, so whatever type of festival goer you are, there’s bound to be an area to suit; laughs, literature, art, science, art, music and mischief.

Why so special?

Daily movies at The Cinedrone, kids yoga sessions, and a Children’s Parade showcasing the creations made by the under-12s in the Little Folk workshops.

Caravans cost extra, but sadly tickets for caravan have already sold out for 2019.

Gloworm Festival

Sat 17th & Sun 18th August 2019, Thoresby Park, Nottinghamshire, NG22 9EQ.

Set in the beautiful green fields of Thoresby Park in North Nottinghamshire, Gloworm is a relatively new and no less fun-tastic two-day festival.

Created for grown-ups and their little people, festival-goers are encouraged to let loose their inhibitions and have some fun. The event is aimed at families with children aged 0-13, with plenty for teenagers and grown-ups to enjoy too.

The Big Feastival 2019

Thurs 23-Sun 25 August 2019, Cotswold

If fabulous food and celebrity spotting is for you, The Big Feastival could be right up your street.

Held on ex-Blur bassist Alex James’s Cotswold farm, the musical line-up has grown somewhat over the past few years. The line-up for 2019 is still under wraps, but big names headlined the show last year including Basement Jaxx, Craig David, and Paloma Faith.

For the kids, there is a feast of things to do. Again nothing revealed for 2019, but expect cookery classes, a circus school, along with tree climbing and crafting.

Why so special?

Street food, supper club, and champagne lounge. Foodies rejoice, this is a rare treat at a festival.

Motorhomes / Caravans / Camper Vans

Adult weekend camping ticket, £179.50
